Inspection:
Carefully inspect materials upon receiving shipment. Any visual defects or damage must be noted on original bill of lading. Wood-Boo Hardwood Flooring will not warrant any materials installed with existing defects. Installation issues will not be warranted by Wood-Boo Hardwood Flooring unless the material was installed by one of our crews and it was shown to be an installation issue. Tools/supplies needed:
Applications: Wood-Boo Hardwood Flooring may be stapled, glued or floated at any grade level and over most any substrate (we do not recommend using particle board as a substrate with the exception of OSB). In any type of installation, joints should be staggered 6-12 inches. Wood-Boo Hardwood Flooring recommends bridging the floor planks across underlying joists. Nail down installation: A 15 lb felt or ASW membrane should be applied directly over the sub floor, running with the floor joists. Planks should be square with the room and parallel with its longest dimension by marking with a chalk line. Be sure to leave a 1/4" expansion gap from the face plate or wall. Once you have ensured that the starter rows are straight, make sure they are held firmly in place by wedging or face nailing them. Subsequent planks should be blind nailed directly above the tongue at a 45-50 degree angle to the face. Fasteners should be spaced at 10-12 inch intervals, with a minimum of two fasteners per plank. Glue down installation: To combat present or potential moisture conditions, we recommend using a moisture cured flooring adhesive such as Bostiks Best, Bostiks BST or Chemrex 941. Any 100% urethane adhesive is advisable. Do not use any brand of ACRYLIC urethane adhesive. We recommend using an underlayment such as ASW membrane. Install it perpendicular to how you will be installing the flooring. Wood-Boo Hardwood Flooring does not warrant any adhesives. Please check with manufacturer for directions or tips on using their products, as well as warranty information. Spread the adhesive with a 1/4 by 1/4 inch v-notched trowel. Only trowel out an area you will be able to install before the recommended setting up time on the adhesive container. Follow the same installation process as stated above, making sure to leave a 1/4" expansion gap around the perimeter, and continuously checking that the floor is not shifting in the adhesive. Taping the boards with 3M blue tape after every 3-4 rows have been installed is also helpful. Keep a lint free towel close by to immediately wipe away any excess glue. If allowed to sit on the material, the adhesive may burn or etch the finish. The only remedy at that point would be to completely screen and recoat the floor. Tongue and groove floating: Install an underlayment such as ASW membrane over the sub floor, perpendicular to how you will be installing the flooring. Lay down the first board at the right end of the starting wall with the tongue facing toward you. Be sure to leave 1/4" space from the wall to allow for expansion. Apply a continuous bead of tongue and groove glue to the top and side of the groove on each board. Never apply glue to the tongue or fill the groove. Place a tapping block against the tongue side of the board and tap with a hammer or mallet, making sure all joints are tight. Never hammer the groove side of the plank. Immediately wipe away any excess glue with a lint free cloth. Begin each new row on the right side with the remaining portion of the previous board. The end joint must be at least 6 inches from the end joint in the row before it. The last row will most likely need to be cut lengthwise, or “ripped”. To accurately measure the last row, place a board directly on top of a board in the last installed row, facing the same way. Lay another board on top of it, against the wall. Scribe the middle board and cut to fit. You will most likely need a pry bar to install the last row successfully. Installing moldings: Do not glue or nail moldings directly to your floor. Transition moldings are glued to the sub floor and perimeter moldings are nailed or glued to the wall. Remove excess underlayment before installing transitions or accessories. We advise letting the glue dry at least 12 hours before allowing heavy traffic on or around the area. |
