Origin: Southern Mexico, Central America, Brazil, Boliva, Peru
Appearance: Jatoba, or Brazilian Cherry, has an open-grained appearance similar to Oak, but is more than twice as hard. It features slightly darker streaks which provide an appealing contrast against its deep orange color. Several months after the installation, Jatoba will darken somewhat.
Properties: In addition to its warm reddish tint, Jatoba is notable for its hardness and durability. Jatoba is one of the hardest choices for wood flooring.
Principal uses: Wood flooring, tool handles, railroad crossties, and furniture.
